Division of Developmental Disabilities

Message from the Director: People with developmental disabilities and their families are valued citizens of the state of Washington. The Division of Developmental Disabilities strives to develop and implement public policies that will promote individual worth, self-respect, and dignity such that each individual is valued as a contributing member of the community.

The Residential Service Guidelines, issued in 1988, and the County Guidelines, issued in 1992, continue to support the Department's vision, mission, and core values. Both sets of guidelines were developed by a workgroup made up of consumers and their families, residential service providers, Counties and employment providers, advocates, and Division staff. These guidelines are central to the Division’s purpose.

Additionally, two working documents have been developed that describe the system of supports for people with developmental disabilities and DDD’s commitment to building this system.  To read the documents, click on the links below.

WA State Dept. of Health issues alert on Pertussis (Whooping Cough) – The incidence of pertussis/whooping cough is reaching epidemic levels in Washington. Read the DOH Alert and Pertussis Fact Sheet to learn the symptoms and get vaccination information.

New Medicaid website - Medicaid.gov provides easy access to information about Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).  The site has sections on people with disabilities and long term services and supports. Visit the website.

Autism Awareness Events in Seattle and Tacoma -
The University of Washington Autism Center is holding events throughout April to promote Autism Awareness Month.  All talks are free but advance registration is required. Find out more.
