OFFICE OF THE DEAF AND HARD OF HEARINGAnnouncement The University of Washington Disability Studies Program presents a lecture and conversation about the history of disability activism in the US. Announcement The state of Washington Department of Social and Health Services (DHSH) is initiating this request for Qualification/Quotation (RFQQ) to obtain bids from qualified organizations and individuals interested in proving sign language interpreter services for persons who are deaf, deaf-blind, and hard of hearing. DSHS shall accept bids on a quarterly basis as per the procurement schedule in Section B.4 Announcement UPDATE – Location and different times for Vancouver forums has been finalized and added to these flyers. The Medical Interpreting Task Force (MITF) is hosting community forums to address concerns regarding American Sign Language (ASL) interpreting in medical settings for deaf, deaf-blind and hard of hearing people. Friday night forums are for Deaf, Deaf-Blind and Hard of Hearing only AND Saturday morning forums are for ASL Interpreters only. ODHH, WSAD, WSRID are sponsoring the community forums. Special thanks to the Regional Service Centers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for their help in making these forums possible. Announcement The Washington Telecommunication Relay Services (WATRS) FY12 annual report is now available. The report includes information on TRS and CapTel services and outreach activities. Announcement Draft FY14 Budget The FY14 Budget is a draft and is now available for public comments. The first document, "ODHH Overview of Law-Program-Fund" is to give you an overview of ODHH requirements, how we organize our services and how these services are funded. The second document, "ODHH FY14 Background Information" is an explanation of ODHH fiscal challenges with declining landlines which mean less revenue and a shrinking fund balance and the budget reductions. It explains why and what we are doing to save costs and the reductions to each of the services. "ODHH_FY14_Draft_Public Comments" is the budget itself which includes: 1) FY14 revenue and expenditures 2) FY13 and FY14 budget comparisons 3) % of funding to administration and services, and 4) our four-year projections and when ODHH will go broke. Announcement FY13 Budget Announcement Research Data Analysis in collaboration with ODHH has prepared a 13-page report, entitled “Demographic and socio-economic characteristics of persons with serious hearing loss and other serious health conditions in Washington State.” The report is based on U.S. Census’ 2008 American Community Survey. The Office of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH) will no longer have a “strategic plan” to report. Instead, ODHH has a “Business Plan” in connection with the DSHS strategic plan that explains what we will be doing for you in the next two years. Click here: Announcement Center on Childhood Deafness and Hearing Loss (CDHL) was established recently with passage of HB1879 during the 2009 legislative session. CDHL is an ‘umbrella agency’ that includes WA School for the Deaf. Per HB 1879, CDHL is hosting stakeholder meetings to gather public opinion about deaf education in the public school systems.
