Communication Access Realtime Translation - CART services, is a professional service that can be delivered on location or remotely. CART services provide the instant translation of the spoken words into text using a stenotype machine, notebook computer and real-time software. The text produced by the CART service can be displayed on an individual’s computer monitor, projected onto a screen, combined with a video presentation to appear as captions, or otherwise made available using other transmission and display systems.

The state contracts with agencies that schedule CART services. However, to ensure quality, you can check out the CART reporter’s qualifications here.
There are two types of CART reporters;
A Professional CART provider is required to have a business license from the state of Washington.
An Advanced CART provider is required to have a business license from the state of Washington, Certification through the National Court Reporters Association, and has demonstrated the 200 WPM with 100 percent accuracy requirement.
