End of Life Doula Training – Extension This project, in partnership with the Gentle Passage Doula Collective, will be implemented in five Washington Health Care Association member skilled nursing facilities in the State of Washington. The goal of the project is to prepare and equip staff with tools to enhance their knowledge, skills, and abilities to ease the pain and suffering residents and their families may experience at the end of life. Staff will learn how to provide support by implementing non-medical approaches and appropriate communication skills. Participants will complete a two-hour training each week, as well as a pre-test to determine their existing knowledge base and a post-test to determine their knowledge improvement following the project. |

Window to the Arts This project is a continuation of the project that ended 8/31/24. It will be continued in three nursing homes with the goal of improving nursing home residents’ quality of life and to combat isolation through live performance and customized, responsive arts experiences. A creative therapist was incorporated into each event and provided interactive arts workshops following the performances. Creative therapy interactions will provide the nursing home residents with meaningful experiences that provided sensory stimulation, engagement on a personal level, validation, and comfort. The program promotes self-expression through singing, music-making, improvisation, and/or songwriting. |

Music Therapy The Music Therapy project aims to improve resident quality of life by improving their physical, mental, and emotional health. CHCC will partner with a local music therapist to provide music therapy to residents, particularly those with mobility issues, every other week for a total of 26 weeks per year. The therapist will use harp music to create a calming and therapeutic environment for residents. Sessions will include live harp performances, interactive musical activities, and personalized resident interventions aimed at enhancing cognitive function, emotional well-being and overall quality of life. |

The SNFClinic project seeks to provide comprehensive training for nursing facility staff through a centralized technology-based system. Following the completion of the project, Long-Term Care Consultants, LLC anticipates a reduction in survey deficiencies, improvement in scope and severity tags, improvement in compliance, increase of overall quality of care, reduction in high-risk long-stay residents with pressure ulcers, and increase in short-stay residents who made improvements in function. |

The goals are to increase resident participation in Animal Therapy activities, decrease reported feelings of isolation or loneliness, and maintain a satisfaction rate of 95% or higher regarding the overall Therapeutic Recreation program’s activities and impact on quality of life. |

This is a program to unlock the transformative power of creative movement. Teaching artists from SilverKite Community Arts will travel to each of the nursing home communities to offer hour long creative movement workshops approximately twice a month for skilled nursing residents. Workshops will focus on: creative expression, mobility/stretching, balance, storytelling, connection and fun! Twice per calendar year residents will showcase their learning with a sharing/performance for family and friends. |

SAIDO Learning This project will be implemented in eight LeadingAge Washington member nursing homes. SAIDO Learning was developed by the Kumon Learning Therapy Center, part of the Kumon Institute of Education in Japan, as a program designed for individuals with memory impairment. Those with Alzheimer’s and other dementias meet with trained staff for structured sessions of mental exercises focusing on simple arithmetic, writing, and reading aloud to increase engagement of residents. The process fosters confidence and often results in improved abilities and quality of life. |

Eversound Resident Engagement and Interaction Project This project will provide the Eversound equipment to 12 nursing homes in the State of Washington. Hearing loss and impaired sensory processing are challenges faced by nursing home residents and these are linked to psychosocial distress, decreased well-being, and quality of life. Training will be provided so staff can use it with residents to enable them to fully engage regardless of their level of hearing loss. Eversound is referred to as an “engagement amplifier” and is designed to help deliver sounds directly and without distraction into the ears of those with hearing deficiencies or who lack focus due to dementia. |
