13,297 employees completed the 2009 Employee Survey. They addressed communication, supervisor/manager support, fairness and diversity, job satisfaction, and business practices. Survey results were dominated by issues related to the economic downturn. Most employees are glad to have a job, but many are concerned about client well-being in the face of increased demand for services and cuts in budget, staff, and client services. They are hungry for information about future staff and service cuts. Survey responses helped to define the Department’s core values of Excellence in Service, Respect, Collaboration and Partnership, Diversity, and Accountability. Many of the survey respondents addressed these topics. This survey report also showcases the talents of DSHS employees by publishing the winning entries from the Department’s photo contest, which was held in conjunction with the survey.
