2003 WANAHS

Identifier: The Washington State Needs Assessment Household Survey (WANAHS)

WANAHS Background

The Washington State Needs Assessment Household Survey (WANAHS) was a statewide survey of 6,713 adult household residents designed to measure the prevalence use and the need for substance abuse treatment. Data were collected from February 2003 through February 2004. Funding was provided by a grant from the Federal Center for Substance Abuse Treatment. These data update a previous survey conducted in 1993-94.

The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) Research and Data Analysis Division conducted the project on behalf of the DSHS Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse.

The WANAHS over sampled young adults, minorities, and lower-income populations to facilitate demographic analysis. The WANAHS sample was weighted to U.S. Census data to provide direct statewide estimates of substance use and the need for substance abuse treatment services

These tables supplement the material in the WANAHS state report.
