The Community Residential Services Business training team provides training and learning solution related supports to the DSHS’ Developmental Disabilities Administration's community residential providers identified in WAC 388-829-0005.

The CRSB team holds meetings on the second Wednesday of each month for WAC and policy changes, training updates, announcements, Q&A, and new provider training orientation. The meetings are scheduled from 10 a.m. -12 p.m.  You may join the meeting via computer or TEAMS mobile app at .

Yes.  The DDA Residential Services Curriculum also meets DD Specialty training requirements. 

Population Specific

No. Providers can select on or more of the following topics to include:

  • Specialty training related to mental health or dementia.
  • First aid training and CPR training.
  • On-the-job training hours, including client-specific training, when the instructor is a trained peer coach.
  •  Other curricula approved by DDA.

Continuing Education (CE)

All CE’s must be DSHS approved.

CRSB Training Standards

  • Due to high demand, please be sure to cancel the registration if you are not able to attend a course. This will allow for others to register.  
  • To obtain Continuing Education credit(s), participants are required to attend and participate for the entire duration of the training.  This includes participating in all activities. 
  • To participate in virtual training, you will need to join by desktop or laptop computer. This is required to fully engage or interact in the virtual classroom setting. This includes attending without distractions or managing other responsibilities.  

DDA Residential Training Program

To start a DDA residential agency training program, your agency must have a DDA residential contract or license.  You need at least one training course and training curriculum. To set up your training program, submit a trainer and curriculum approval form and specific information about your agency.

DSHS Training Materials

DDA residential training programs can access DSHS curriculum and materials on the DDA Training Curriculum webpage or the DSHS Curriculum and Materials webpage.  To use these trainings, the curriculum and instructor must be approved by the department.

Curriculum Approval Requests

To start a curriculum approval process, please submit a DDA Curriculum Approval form to DDApproval@dshs.wa.gov.

When you request approval for a non-DSHS developed curriculum, include the following information:

  • Training presentation materials, including a summary of the curriculum, learning objectives, and the total training hours, include time and activities for each section. You must also include a description of how the training is relevant to the care setting, the care needs of residents, or the career development of Direct Support Professional.
  • All related documents, such as handouts, learner guides, and facilitator guides.
  • If another organization created the materials, you need permission from the curriculum developer or owner to use them in your training program.

When you request approval for DSHS developed curriculum, include the following information:

  • The link to the training material.
  • Proof of prerequisite completion.

One hour of completed training equals one hour of continuing education credit.

Online or Virtual Trainings

If you are approved to facilitate trainings on a virtual or online platform, please review the Online Training Standards and Virtual Classroom Training Standards.
