Seeking a MSW & BASW PRACTICUM ?
The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) offers internships to help students and new professionals learn about social work and public service. Interns get hands-on experience in public policy, working with communities, and helping individuals. This program gives Master of Social Work (MSW) and Bachelor of Social Work (BASW) students the opportunity to gain real-world experience.
Focus Areas in Social Work (MSW Framework)
Interns will engage in learning and work experiences across there fundamental levels of social work practice:
Macro Level
At the macro level, interns will focus on public policy, culture, and society. They will learn about how laws and policies are made and how they affect people and communities. Interns will also see how DSHS considers different cultures when creating and running programs. Finally, they will gain an understanding of how large social issues and trends impact DSHS's work.
Mezzo Level
At the mezzo level, interns will engage with schools, community organizations, and health agencies. Interns will work with programs that support students and schools. They will also learn how DSHS teams up with local groups to provide services and organize events. Additionally, interns will work on projects with health agencies to learn about public health efforts and preventative care.
Micro Level
At the micro level, interns will focus on families, peers, and health agencies. Interns will learn about DSHS programs that help families through counseling and support services. They will also see how peer support programs assist people through mentoring and guidance. Finally, interns will work with health agencies to gain insight into public health efforts and preventative care.
What You Will Do
The specific expectations and opportunities during the internship program may vary depending on the administration, the background and expertise of the supervising professional, and the academic requirements set by the student's school.
Who Can Apply?
Students must be enrolled in an MSW or BASW program to participate. They must also be able to commit to the practicum hours required by their school.

Important Note:
We are looking for interns who are reliable, detail-oriented, and able to commit to the standard office hours. Office hours for DSHS (Department of Social and Health Services) are strictly Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Interns must ensure their availability align with these hours to prevent scheduling conflicts or unnecessary applications.

If you are applying for a Credit...Eligible role, it is recommended that you consult your faculty advisor to ensure you meet all school-specific requirements.
